Jacob Adelstein Allegany, NY Jacob Adelstein of 104 Clarence St. passed away Saturday (September 19, 2015) at the Absolut of Allegany. Born September 27, 1917 in Brooklyn he was the son of Joseph and Sophie Dichter Adelstein. He was married to Loretta Gusik Adelstein who survives. Mr. Adelstein was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army. He proudly worked for many years with his brothers as an owner and operator of Finest Food Distributing Co., Inc. in Queens. He passed the business on to his son who now runs the company along with his cousin. Through his hard work it grew from a small business to one that now employs a third generation of his family. As proud as he was of his son, he was equally proud of his daughter who is in practice as a lawyer in Olean. She had been assisting her parents in their transition from New York City to Allegany when he fractured a hip and, after surgery, decided that his 97 years on earth was enough.. Although Brooklyn was his home and was in his heart, he was looking forward to a new beginning in Allegany. He will be remembered as a generous, wonderful father and a loving husband. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter Fern (William Herrmann) Adelstein of Olean; a son Larry (Isabel Diaz) Adelstein of North Woodmere; 3 grandchildren Ian Adelstein-Herrmann, Jordan Adelstein, and Mayra Diaz; 1 great granddaughter Sierra and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister. Friends are invited to attend a burial service to be held at 2pm today (Sunday September 20, 2015) in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Olean. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com.
